How Building a Christmas List Can Help Save Money

It's the most wonderful time of the year! ...or so they say! We have all been there, it's November 23rd and your mom is texting you asking for your Christmas List because she is NOT about to miss out on all the holiday sales that start after your Thanksgiving feast tomorrow!  (Or at least those of us with COOL MOMS, shoutout Amanda Miller for being so amazing!)

Before we dive in, I think it is important we talk about a few things!

Now, I came from a family of "extreme couponers" and my parents did everything in their power to make sure my brother and I had the most special Christmas even if money had been tight that year. My mom, bless her heart, would hit ALL the deals to make sure we had at least one gift that was completely awesome under the tree. My brother and I understood how hard our parents worked to make that happen and the Christmas List was more of a tool for them to use to ensure, if they were going to spend money on a gift for us-they wanted to be certain it was something we would really love, need and enjoy!

In our family a good Christmas List has three key factors.

1. Create the List Using a Sharable App
If you own Apple Products, I suggest using the "Notes" app. You can easily "Share Note" when you select the three dots in the right-hand corner of your iPhone screen. But what should you do if one family member is an android user? Don't fear-you can also share the Note via email, Instagram and Facebook! The whole point of making a shareable list is so you can LINK all the items on your list. This makes shopping quick and easy for family members to tap for a one stop shop! Especially if you are shopping small! Google doesn't always bring up these stores in a search right off the bat. Last but not least this directs people to the website or store that sells your gift so new shoppers can sign up to receive emails and holiday deals when they visit the link for the first time!

2. 80-20 Rule
About 80% of the items on your list should be $50 and under items and the other 20% can be more extravagant gifts. Why? First of all, we need to remember that everyone has a different budget. Be respectful of everyone's situation during the holidays. One thing my family does is a "gift total" maybe I am going to spend $100 on each person so it is nice to have some lower ticket items on the list, so family members have more gifts to open up!

3. Create it NOW, Send it EARLY!
This is the most important part and reason we build a Christmas List in my family! As a couponer AND a shop owner I can tell you that if you wait to buy gifts until the last minute-chances are-you probably won't get what you want, and you'll end up paying more. Missing out on the Holiday shopping deals is what we want to avoid! Christmas Lists are a great way to get the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to holiday shopping because you can plan ahead and take advantage of sales and discounts over Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

Most importantly remember to always be grateful and thankful! The best gifts are the ones you give!

Nice work up. I love the idea. I didnt get a list last year and it made shopping very difficult since I definetly want to get gifts that my family wants or needs. Yes, we are all on budgets this year and this idea should help many of us. Also I hope you will get many more orders for your fabulous and unique products. Merry Christmas to all and happy shopping!!!!
